Penguins Cap Off Successful Trip to Michigan With Win At Detroit Mercy

Southfield, Mich. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Horizon League play with a 6-1 win over Detroit Mercy on Sunday evening at the Franklin Athletic Club.

With the victory the Penguins improve to 11-9 overall and 5-0 in the Horizon League. The Titans drop to 7-14 and 2-4 on the year.

YSU needed to win one doubles match to claim the point after UDM defaulted at No. 3. At No. 2, Imaan Hassim and Noelly Longi Nsimba picked up a 6-2 victory to give the Guins the doubles point.

In singles play, UDM defaulted at No. 6 but the Penguins won four of the five other singles matches.

At No. 1, Nsimba beat Iris Thioux 6-2, 6-3. At No. 4, Hassim picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Chelsea Apawti. Tamara Teufl earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ksenia Providokhina. At No. 2, Sofia Macias earned a hard-fought 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 win against Jasmine Apawti.

The Penguins host Northern Kentucky on Saturday.
