Bloomfield, Mich. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team improved to 4-0 in Horizon League play following a 5-2 win over Oakland on Saturday at the Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness Center.
With the win YSU improves to 10-9 overall while Oakland falls to 9-9 overall and 3-2 in Horizon League play.
The Penguins came back to win five singles matches after dropping the doubles point.
Winning in singles play were Noelly Longi Nsmiba (No. 1), Anastasiia Khokhlova (No. 3), Imaan Hassim (No. 4), Tamara Teufl (No. 5) and Cassandra Moraleja (No. 6). YSU picked up four straight-set wins during singles play.
In doubles, Sofia Macias and Teufl won a 6-4 decision, but the Golden Grizzlies won at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the point.
At No. 1 singles, Nsimba picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win over OU's Darya Maltseva. At No. 3, Khokhlova picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Allison Motea. Hassim earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Alexandra Whall at No. 4. At No. 5, Teufl won 6-1, 6-3 against OU's Sofia Borcuti. Winning in three sets at No. 6 was Moraleja who won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 over Amanda Nilsson.
The Penguins are back in action on Sunday when they face Detroit Mercy. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at the Franklin Athletic Club.
