Women's Tennis

YSU Concludes Strong Weekend With 7-0 Win Over Green Bay

Boardman, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win over Green Bay on Sunday morning at the Avalon Athletic Club.

With the victory, YSU improves to 8-9 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League while the Phoenix fall to 1-7 and 0-2.

The Penguins need to win one of two doubles matches after the Phoenix defaulted at No. 3. At No. 1, Sofia Macias and Tamara Teufl earned a 6-2 win over Theresa Tebon and Talli Piaskowski. 

In the singles play, YSU was dominant in the five matches that were played. The Guins won all five matches in straight sets while the Phoenix scored just nine total points.

At No. 1, Noelly Longi Nsimba beat Tebon 6-1, 6-4 in the most competitive singles match of the dual. At No. 2, Macias beat Piaskowski 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3, Anastasiia Khokhlova defeated Maria Neff 6-1, 6-0. Imaan Hassim was solid in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 over Sterre Tijssens and at No. 5, Teufl earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Samm Pederson.

The Penguins are next in action against Cleveland State on Saturday. The match at CSU is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
