Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 contest at Duquesne and a 6-1 decision to Pittsburgh to open the dual season on Saturday.
Pittsburgh 6, YSU 1
The Penguins opened play on Saturday with a 6-1 defeat to ACC member Pittsburgh at the Oxford Athletic Club.
Noelly Longi Nsimba earned a singles win at No. 1 in straight sets over Gabriela Rezende. Nsimba earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Rezende.
At No. 3 singles, Imaan Hassim lost 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 to the Panthers' Camila Moreno.
In doubles play, Hassim and Sofia Macias claimed a 6-4 victory at No. 1, but Pitt earned 6-4 (No. 3) and 7-5 (No. 2) wins to claim the point.
Duquesne 5, YSU 2
Later in the day the Penguins concluded a busy opening day with a 5-2 loss to Duquesne at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh.
YSU earned a pair of wins in singles play and won a doubles match against the Dukes.
Winning in singles were Imaan Hassim and newcomer Anastasiia Khokhlova. Hassim picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win over Laurel Shymasky at No. 3 singles. At No. 4, Khokhlova earned her first collegiate win defeating Ally Miller 2-6, 7-6, 10-2.
In doubles play, Nsmiba and Khokhlova earned a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.
