Women's Tennis

YSU Picks Up 5-2 Victory Over Detroit Mercy

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team had a strong outing in a 5-2 victory over Detroit at the Boardman Tennis Center on Saturday night.

YSU improves to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in the Horizon League with the win while Detroit drops to 6-9 and 2-1.

The Penguins jumped out quickly by winning the doubles point in strong fashion. At No. 1, Nehel Sahni and Noelly Longi Nsimba won 6-1 and at No. 2 Imaan Hassim and Sofia Macias earned an impressive 6-0 win.

In singles play, YSU won the first four completed matches winning at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5.

At No. 2, Nsimba won 7-5, 6-0, at No. 3, Macias picked up a 6-0, 7-5 win. At No. 4, Hassim cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win and at No. 5, Sahni won 7-5, 6-3.

The Penguins are back in action on Sunday against Oakland. The match is slated for 1 p.m. at the YSU Tennis Courts.
