Penguins Cruise Past Green Bay; Need Sunday Win to Earn League Title

Green Bay, Wis. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team had an impressive performance sweeping Green Bay 7-0 on Saturday at the Western Racquet Club. The Penguins need to defeat Milwaukee on Sunday to earn a share of the Horizon League regular-season title.

Entering tomorrow's action, UIC, Cleveland State and YSU are all 7-1 in league play. Wins by all three will create a three-way tie for the league title, however the Penguins will be the No. 1 seed at the Horizon League Championships which begin on Friday because of tiebreakers.

YSU beat Cleveland State, but lost to UIC. UIC beat the Penguins but lost to the Vikings. And CSU beat UIC, but lost to the Penguins. UIC plays host to Oakland while the Vikings are at Green Bay on Sunday.

YSU picked up singles wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point agianst the Phoenix (2-14 and 0-8).

At No. 1, Noelly Nsimba and Ana Stroe won 6-3 while at No. 3, Dominika Lackova and Nehel Sahni won 6-2.

In singles, the Penguins swept all six matches. At No. 1, Lackova won 6-4, 6-1; at No. 2, Nsimba won 6-3, 6-1; at No. 3, Sofia Macias prevailed 7-5, 6-4; at No. 4, Sahni won 6-2, 6-4; at No. 5, Imaan Hassim won 6-3, 6-4 and at No. 6, Stroe cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win.

The Penguins have won their last seven matches and own a 13-8 record for the season.
