Penguins Drop Final Non-League Contest Against Toledo

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Toledo on Saturday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center. It was the final non-conference match of the season for the Penguins who start Horizon League play next weekend.

The Guins (6-7) picked up a win at No. 2 singles, but had three three-set defeats in the contest against the Rockets (8-5).

Winning at No. 2 was Sofia Macias while Noelly Nsimba, Imaan Hassim and Nehel Sahni all suffered tough three-set defeats.

Toledo opened the match by winning all three doubles matches to claim the point.

Macias won the first completed singles match by a score of 6-3, 7-5 over Collen O'Brien. With the second set tied at five, Macias won the final two points to claim the match.

Straight-set losses by Ana Stroe and Cassandra Mojela gave the Rockets a 3-1 advantage.

Nsimba won her first set 6-2 before dropping the next two by scores of 6-2, 6-4 to Sidnay Huck at No. 1. That match clinched the win for UT. At No. 3, Hassim dropped her first set 6-1 before winning the second 6-4. However, UT's Mimi Kendall-Woseley won the decisive set 6-4. At No. 4, Sahni won her first set 7-6 before losing the next two 6-4, 10-5.

The Penguins are next in action on Friday when they open Horizon League play against UIC at the Boardman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
