YSU Wins Three Singles Matches In Dual Loss to Akron

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team won three singles matches, but suffered a 4-3 setback to Akron on Monday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center.

Winning singles matches for YSU were Sofia Macias at No. 2, Imaan Hassim at No. 4 and Nehel Sahni at No. 6. 

In her first match of the spring, Sahni picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6 over Carli Knezevich. She was the lone straight sets winner for the Penguins.

At No. 4, Hassim battled back for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 victory over Karalina Maksimava. Macias also had an impressive come-from-behind victory over Adriana Blinova. Macias dropped the first set 6-2 before taking the second 6-4. In the third, she trailed 4-1 and 6-5 before forcing a tiebreaker. Macias led most of the tiebreak before falling behind 7-6. However, she scored the last three points for the 9-7 win in the set to take the match.

The Zips (9-2) won singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to earn the doubles point.

The Penguins are back in action on Friday when they visit Dayton.
