Penguins Finish 1-2 in Three-Match Trip To Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Youngstown State women's tennis team beat Southern Utah on Friday before dropping matches at UNLV and to Idaho on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Penguins are now 4-3 on the season after opening the season with four wins in five matches to start the year.

On Friday against Southern Utah, YSU picked up a 6-1 victory. The Penguins won doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to earn the point.

In singles matches, the Guins won five of six from the Thunderbirds. Earning singles wins were Noelly Nsimba at No. 2, Sofia Macias at No. 3, Ana Stroe at No. 4, Imaan Hassim at No. 5 and Monique Belovukovic at No. 6.

In the first match on Saturday, the Penguins lost 4-0 to UNLV. The Runnin' Rebels earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. UNLV then swept contests at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 to clinch the match.

Later in the day, the Penguins dropped a 4-0 decision to Idaho. The Vandals earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 while Dominika Lackova and Cassandra Moraleja won 6-3 at No. 3.

The Vandals earned the dual victory winning matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6. At No. 4, Stroe led 6-4, 5-2 when the match was clinched.

YSU returns to action on Monday, Feb. 20 when it plays host to Akron.
