The Youngstown State women's tennis team capped off a strong weekend with a 6-1 win over Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.

The Penguins improve to 10-10 overall and 3-1 in Horizon League play while the Norse fall to 2-11 and 0-4.

Prior to the win over the Norse, the program honored seniors Line Greyling and Yoana Dudova who were playing in their final home match.

YSU came out strong in doubles taking the point in under 25 minutes. At No. 3, Sarah Partida Garcia and Lorena Cedeno cruised to a 6-0 win. YSU clinched the match with a 6-1 win at No. 1 by Yoana Dudova and Hanna Telzynska. At No. 2, Greyling and Yeseniia Ovchrova had a 5-1 lead when the point was clinched.

The Penguins continued their momentum into singles action.

 YSU won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles.

At No. 1, Telzynska picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win. At No. 2, Cedeno cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Ovcharova claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win. In her final home match, Dudova earned a 6-0, 6-2 triumph.

Partida Garcia earned a win in three sets. She won her first set 6-3 before dropping the second 6-3. She won 10-6 in the super tiebreaker to earn the victory.

At No. 5, the Norse picked up a three-set victory for its lone point of the contest.

The Guins close out the regular season on Saturday at Oakland. First serve against the Golden Grizzlies is set for 3:30 p.m.
