Hamilton Breaks Own School Record in 6k

Junior Samantha Hamilton continues to have a breakout cross country season after setting a new school record in the women's 6k race at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday while sophomore Eric Rupe finished the 5.2 mile race as the Guins' top runner for the third consecutive week.

Women's results
Hamilton, who set the school record for the 6k in a time of 21:45 last season, finished seventh overall on Saturday, completing the course in a time of record-breaking time of 21:31. She crossed the three mile split at 16:55, which is also the fastest three mile split in school history and a minute better than her time last week.

Sophomore Anna Pompeo also joins Hamilton on YSU's Top Ten charts. Her personal-best 6k time of 22:53 moves her into tenth place in school history. Pompeo, who came in as the Guins' number two runner, finished 28th overall.

With a time of 23:17, junior Nelly Yegon improved by more than two minutes as compared to her time on the course two years ago; she finished 36th overall.

Freshmen Christina Oles and Katie Heney rounded out the top five for the Guins by running personal-best 6k times. Oles crossed the finish line in 23:34 (40th overall) while Heney came in at 23:56 (46th overall). Brittany Stockmaster, freshman, also finished the race in a personal-best time of 24:03.

The women's team scored 157 points to finish in sixth place; they were five points behind the Penn State team.

Men's results
The men's team also ran impressive personal-best times on Saturday. Rupe's time of 27:12 was good for tenth place. His four-mile split of 20:38 was nearly a thirty-second improvement from last week's four-mile race at Akron.

Freshman Austin McLean and Nick Gliha continue to hold the Guins's number two and three positions. McLean finished in 23rd place in a time of 27:50 while Gliha was just eight seconds behind him in 28th place. Both also improved their four-mile split times.

Brandon Pasvanis finished in 42nd place with a time of 29:05 while Aron Korir came in as the Guins' fifth runner in a time of 30:41.

Scoring 156 points, the men's team finished in sixth place.

Coach Gorby is "impressed with the work ethic and improvement" of the teams.

"You can see their improvement is a result of their great passion, attitudes and work ethic," he said.

The men's and women's team will have two weeks off from competition before traveling to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational.
