Junior Samantha Hamilton was just eight seconds away from breaking the school record in the 6k for the second time this season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships hosted by the University of Toledo on Saturday. The women's squad placed 20 while the men's team finished 27th overall.
Women's Results
Hamilton ran the 6k course in 21:38, her second-best time of the season, to finish 43rd out of 224 competitors. Running season-best times, Anna Pompeo crossed the line in 22:27 for 92nd place, Nelly Yegon came in at 22:40 for 109th place, and Brittany Stockmaster finished in 23:27 for 152nd place. Rounding out YSU's top five, Christina Oles was only a second away from her season-best time, running the course in 23:35 for 157th place.
Katey Heney also ran a season-best time of 23:55 while Jillian Smith clocked in with a season-best 25:57.
The women scored 553 points to finish in front of Oakland (639), Akron (651) and Kent State (717). They were also the second-highest Horizon League team to finish; only Butler had fewer points (354).
Men's Results
Eric Rupe and Nick Gliha finished together in the final race of the season; Rupe completed the 10k race in 33:17 for 143rd place as Gliha was just three seconds behind to finish in 144th place. Austin McLean crossed the line ten seconds behind them in a time of 33:31 while Brandon Pasvanis finished in 34:39. Aron Korir rounded out YSU's top five with a time of 37:45. Ryan Pavlicko also ran for YSU, completing the race in 37:59.
The men scored 832 points for 27th place, finishing higher than Horizon League foes Valparaiso (893 points) and Green Bay (960 points).
