Opening Kick
The Youngstown State women's soccer team heads to the Sunshine State for a matchup against Southeastern Conference member and No. 20 Florida, Thursday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium, and the game will be aired on the SEC Network Plus.
Last Time Out
The Penguins dropped a 2-0 decision to Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 30. Sara Felder led the Penguins with six shots while Baylee Williams added three shots. The Penguins won the shots on goal battle, 7-5.
Tough Slate
Youngstown State Head Coach Rich Wall loaded up the non-league portion of the schedule for the second straight season with teams from the American, ACC, Big Ten, and SEC along with teams from the Atlantic-10, Atlantic Sun, Mid-American Conference, and the Patriot League.

No. 21 Florida enters the game with an overall record of 3-1-1 and is coming off a 1-1 draw against Florida Atlantic on Aug. 30. The Gators have wins over Coastal Carolina (3-2) on Aug. 20, No. 3 Florida State (3-1) on Aug. 23, and Jacksonville (6-0) on Aug. 27. Guins Against the SEC
The Penguins' matchup against the Gators marks the second straight season and just the third time overall that Youngstown State has faced a team from the SEC. Last season, the Penguins fell to Missouri, 5-0, on Aug. 20. The first time YSU squared off against an opppent from the SEC was in 2019 when it lost to Kentucky, 3-0, Sept. 1.
Guins vs. Ranked Opponents
This game marks the second straight season and the fifth time Youngstown State has faced a nationally-ranked opponent. The Penguins are 0-4 in those matchups. Last season, Youngstown State fell to No. 25 Texas Tech, 4-1, on Aug. 17. The previous time Youngstown State faced a ranked foe was in 2011 when it faced No. 12 Milwaukee on Oct. 9 and lost 3-0.

2026 Captains
The Youngstown State women's soccer program has named seniors Emma Berdiner, Camille Bultel and Eva Sujevaric, and junior Leah Weiland as team captains for the 2026 season. Berdiner was named to the 2023 Horizon league All-Freshman Team. Bultel was named All-Horizon League Third-Team in 2025 after scoring four goals with four assists for a total of 16 points. Sunjevaric has appeared in 49 games during her career and scored a goal and has two career assists from her defender position. Weiland is in her third full season with the Penguins and she has two career assists.
