Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State women's soccer team clinched a spot in the 2026 Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship after knocking off IU Indy, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins improve to 5-9-4 overall and 5-2-3 in the Horizon League while the Jaguars fall to 7-9-2 overall and 5-5 in action. The five league wins marks the second straight season Youngstown State has posted at least five victories in conference play.
Senior Sara Felder scored for the fifth time this season, including four in conference play, while junior Kate Makkas was credited with the game-winning goal. Sophomore Kamryn Rosa tallied an assist on Felder's goal while Elena Zuchowski aided on Makkas' score.
Freshman goalkeeper Cami Givens picked up her first career win and posted four saves.
The Penguins took a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute on Felder's 16th career goal. Following a collision that sent Rosa and a Jaguar player to the turf, Rosa got up and sent a through ball into the penalty box where a streaking Felder hit a quick left-footer into the lower-right.
The Jaguars knotted the game on Megan Swift's first goal of the season at the 34:32 mark.
Just 3:17 into the second half, Makkas' header from a Zuchowski's free kick went into the lower right to give the Penguins the lead for good.
Youngstown State closes out the regular season against Robert Morris, Saturday, Oct. 31. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Moon Township, Pa.
