Opening Kick
• The Youngstown State women's soccer team continues its season-opening week with road contest against its second Power 4 Conference team in as many games when it visits Big Ten member Indiana, Sunday, Aug. 16.
• Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
The Matchup
• This is the second meeting between Youngstown State and Indiana.
• The Hoosiers lead the all-time series, 1-0, after defeating the Penguins, 6-1, in 2025.
Penguins vs. The B1G
• The Penguins' matchup against the Hoosiers will be the sixth time YSU has faced a team from the Big Ten Conference.
•Youngstown State has played teams from the Big Ten five times previously and owns a record of 0-5.
• Last season, the Penguins lost to Indiana, 6-1, on Aug. 14 and Michigan, 2-0, on Sept. 7.
• The Penguins lost twice to Ohio State (2003, 2009) and another time to Wolverines (2010).
HL Preseason Poll
• Youngstown State was picked to finish third in the 2026 Horizon League Preseason Poll.
• The Penguins accumulated 103 points, and Milwaukee was tabbed as the Horizon League preseason favorite with 142 points.
30th Anniversary Season
Youngstown State is entering its 31st season of competition and the 30th anniversary of the program's inception in 1996.

Youngstown State returns home to host in-state foe Kent State, Thursday, Aug. 20. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
Last Time Out
The Penguins dropped their 2026 season opener to Pittsburgh in a 2-1 hard-fought battle. Senior Sara Felder scored the Penguins first goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1 in the 22nd minute. The Panthers, however, regained the lead in the 38th minute and held on the rest of the way.
Tough Slate
Youngstown State Head Coach Rich Wall loaded up the non-league portion of the schedule for the second straight season with teams from the American, ACC, Big Ten, and SEC along with teams from the Atlantic-10, Atlantic Sun, Mid-American Conference, and the Patriot League.
About Indiana
Indiana enters the game with an overall record of 1-0-0 after knocking off Hampton, 2-1, on Aug. 12. Bella Haggerty scored both of the Hoosiers' goals in the win.
The IU Series
This is the second meeting between Youngstown State and Indiana. The Hoosiers won the first contest, 6-1, on Aug. 14, 2025, in Bloomington, Ind.
Guins Have Experience
Youngstown State returns 19 letterwinners and six starters from last year's squad that finished third in the Horizon League with a 6-2-2 conference mark, and the Penguins added 16 newcomers, including five transfers, for the upcoming campaign.
Scoring Threats Return
Last season, the Penguins posted the most goals scored (29), assists (24), and points (82) against an exclusively Division I schedule in program history. Youngstown State returns its top four scorers and 82.8 percent of its goals scored, 66.7 percent of its assists, and 78 percent of its total points scored from that squad.
