Pitt Holds Off Penguins, 2-1 in 2026 Women’s Soccer Season Opener

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Youngstown State women's soccer team battled for a full 90 minutes, but dropped the 2026 season opener to Pittsburgh, 2-1, at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
Both teams scored their goals in the first 38 minutes of the game and fought through a scoreless second half. Youngstown State tallied five of its six shots and all three of its corner kicks after halftime.
Sara Felder led the Penguins with three shots and scored the Penguins first goal of the season.
Pitt got on the board first when Macy Tew's corner kick found the back of the net at the 15:40 mark of the game.
The Penguins knotted the game less than six minutes later on Felder's 12th career goal at the 21:19 mark. Junior Makayla Thinger launched a through ball for the right wing to the left-center of the penalty box. Felder's right-footer cleared the Pitt goalkeeper and hit the bottom right of the goal.
Pittsburgh regained the lead on a Lola Abraham goal in the 38th minute.
Pitt outshot the Penguins, 5-1, and took 10 corner kicks in the first half.
Youngstown State visits Indiana, Sunday, Aug. 16. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind.
