For his combined success in the pole vault and in the classroom, Youngstown State's Lukas Lang was named the Horizon League Male Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Season, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Lang is the first YSU men's student-athlete to be named a Scholar-Athlete of the Season, and is just the third Penguin across all sports to be named a Scholar-Athlete of the Season by the Horizon League, joining volleyball standout Abbie Householder (Fall 2025) and cross country and track and field runner Morgan Cole (Fall 2022 and Winter 2023).
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes at the conclusion of each of its three athletic seasons as the Scholar-Athlete of the Season. Honorees are selected based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement by the League's faculty athletics representatives. To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Season consideration, a student-athlete must be a member of that sport's current-year all-academic team.
Lang won the indoor pole vault title at the Horizon League Championships for the second straight time. He is 4.00 student-athlete majoring in Information Technology, as well as a two-time member of the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team.
During the indoor season, he set three personal bests in the event, including a best mark of 5.17m. Lang was a two-time Horizon League Athlete of the Week.
