Youngstown State junior quarterback Beau Brungard was named the Stats Perform's National Offensive Player of the Week following his record-setting performance in the 56-17 victory over Robert Morris this past Saturday.
Brungard set a school and conference record for rushing yards in a game by a quarterback with 264 on just 10 carries against the Colonials. Brungard rushed for scores of 72, 28, 20 and four yards in the victory. His longest run of the afternoon was a 78-yard scamper to set up another score.
He had 386 yards of total offense while rushing for four touchdowns and passing for another. He played just 33:09 of the contest before exiting with YSU leading 49-3 with 12:51 left in the third quarter.
His yardage total broke the previous conference record set by Western Kentucky's Donte Pimpleton (245) against Illinois State in 2001.
His total tied for the third most in a game in school history and was the most since Marcus Mason had 265 in 2005. He had scoring runs of 72, 28, 20 and four against the Colonials and set up another one with a 78-yard gallop.
Brungard leads the FCS in total rushing yards (409), rushing yards per game (204.5) and rushing touchdowns (six). He ranks second in the nation in yards per carry at 10.76.
The Penguins play their first road game of the season this Saturday when they visit Michigan State. Kickoff for the contest is set for 3:30 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
