Youngstown, Ohio – Milwaukee (5-4-1, 2-0-0 Horizon League) scored two second-half goals to knock off the Youngstown State women's soccer team (2-8-0, 1-1-0 HL), 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
For more than 60 minutes, the Penguins and Panthers battled through a scoreless tie before the Panthers got on the board.
Youngstown State was called for a handball in the box, and Milwaukee's Kristina Karlof successfully converted the penalty kick to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead at the 61:00 mark.
Senior Taylor Berry nearly knotted the game, but Milwaukee goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach made a great save to preserve the lead at the 79:42 mark.
The Panthers quickly extended the lead to 2-0 after a score by Mallory McGuire off an assist from Taylor Richards.
Youngstown State goalkeeper Maya Naimoli recorded six saves.
The Penguins play their first Horizon League road game against Cleveland State on Thursday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Krenzler Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
