Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State women's soccer team scored three goals in the span of 11 minutes late in the second half enroute to a 3-0 shutout over St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins improved to 1-3 on the season, and Head Coach Rich Wall earned his first victory at Youngstown State. The Bonnies fell to 0-2-1 on the year.
Freshman Baylee Williams scored a goal and assisted on another while sophomore Sara Felder and freshman Kamryn Rosa also added goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Maya Naimoli recorded five saves and posted her fourth career shutout.
As a team, the Penguins posted 26 total shots, including 13 on target, while the Bonnies totaled 14 shots and five on goal.
The teams battled through more than 60 scoreless minutes before the Penguins broke the stalemate. Senior Chloe Weiland lofted pass inside the Bonnies' 18 and found an open Felder streaking to the goal. Felder's first attempt was saved by SBU's Adelaide Paredes, but Felder gathered the rebound and hit the top-right corner of the goal at the 64:07 mark.
The Penguins went up 2-0 in the 69th minute after William's second goal of the season. Junior Camille Bultel retrieved a punt from Maya Naimoli near midfield, dodged a defender, sent a through ball to Williams just outside the 18. Williams laced a shot into the upper-left corner for the two-score advantage.
Rosa scored her first career goal in the 76th minute with a header to the top left from a center by Williams.
Youngtown State returns to the road to face in-state rival Kent State, Thursday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio.
