The Youngstown State Athletic Department is proud to announce a select group of student-athletes named Chi Alpha Sigma. The inaugural class of YSU student-athletes were inducted into the Honor Society during the Scholar-Athlete Banquet earlier this month.
To be inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, a student-athlete must attend a four-year accredited college or university who are members of an association or organization that promotes academic achievement and varsity level athletics competition while holding commitment to the principles of integrity, sportsmanship, and overall development of their student-athletes.
The honoree also must achieve at least junior academic standing by the fifth semester or seventh quarter, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Academic Services Brian Welch spearheaded the creation of the universities new chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma.
"We celebrate not just the athletic prowess of our Youngstown State University student-athletes, but their unwavering commitment to academic excellence," Welch said. "Induction into Chi Alpha Sigma is a testament to their hard work, discipline, and the bright futures they are building both on and off the field. We are proud to honor the exceptional balance of academics and athletics that defines our Penguins."
