Box Score Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 4-0 victory over Southern Indiana in the Horizon League Championships quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at the Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.
The Penguins improve to 14-9 on the season and will now face Belmont in the semifinals. In the other semifinal, Cleveland State will face Tennessee State. Both matchs start at 3 p.m.
YSU won at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the doubles point. At No. 2, Ethan Dasset and Onder Balci earned a 6-3 win while at No. 3, Viktor Van Craenenbroeck and Mihai Haita won 6-4.
In singles, the Penguins won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5. At No. 1, Balci won by a 6-2, 6-0 margin. At No. 3, Dasset collected a 6-2, 6-4 win and the clinching match came when Haita won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
In the other matches, Chester Wickwire led 3-6, 6-0, 4-0 at No. 6 while the Screaming Eagles had leads at No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
YSU advances to the semifinals for the seventh time in the past eight years. In their only previous contest, the Bruins defeated the Guins 4-1 in the HL semifinals in 2023.
