The Youngstown State men's tennis team looks to remain undefeated at home when it hosts the Dayton on Thursday and Chicago State on Saturday inside the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The contest against the Flyers is set for noon while the matchup with the Cougars will be at 10 a.m.
Coming off an impressive 5-2 win over Cleveland State on March 27, the Penguins return home for the first time since Feb. 27, when they defeated Niagara, 4-1. The Guins are 5-0 at home this year and will play five home matches at home this month.
The victory over the Vikings marked Youngstown State's first win in Cleveland since April 2022, improving the Penguins to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in Horizon League play.
Against Cleveland State, five Penguins earned single victories, including Matteo Ceradelli, whose match lasted two hours, 37 minutes, and clinched the win while handing the Vikings their first conference loss this season.Â
Osscar Gippet remains undefeated this spring after earning a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 6-4.Â
The Penguins enter the non-conference matchup against the Flyers on a three-match winning streak, with victories over Northern Kentucky, IU Indy and Cleveland State.
Dayton enters on a six-match winning streak, including four consecutive Atlantic 10 victories. The Flyers improved to 13-6 overall and 5-0 in league play with a 4-0 win over Duquesne on March 29.Â
The last meeting between the teams came during the 2022-23 season, when Dayton defeated Youngstown State, 4-3. The Flyers have won each of the last three matchups.
A win for the Penguins would be their first against Dayton since the 2016-17 season.
YSU's final regular-season non-conference match of the spring is Saturday morning against the Cougars. CSU had spent the past three seasons as affiliate members of the Horizon League and are now in the NEC.
