Box Score Indianapolis, Ind. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team suffered a tough 5-2 setback to IU Indy on Sunday afternoon at the West Indy Racquet Club.
The Penguins fall to 13-8 overall and 5-2 in Horizon League play while the Jaguars improve to 9-12 and 3-4.
The result locks in the Guins as the No. 2 North seed in the Horizon League Championships later this month. They will face the No. 3 South seed in the quarterfinals on April 25 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Playing their second match in under 24 hours in different states, the Guins were facing a senior-laden team on the Jags' senior day.
In doubles, YSU won at No. 2 as Onder Balci and Mihai Haita won 6-3, but the Jaguars won at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point.
In singles, William Rassat won at No. 2 by a score of 7-6 (5), 6-4 while Matteo Ceradelli won 6-4, 7-5. IU Indy won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6. Haita dropped a tough three-set contest at No. 4,
YSU closes out the regular season with home contest against Cleveland State on Saturday. First serve at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center is set for 6 p.m. as the Guins will celebrate Senior Day.
