Box Score Cleveland, Ohio – The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Cleveland State in their Horizon League opener on Saturday at the MMTP.
The Penguins fall to 7-7 on the year while the Vikings improve to 7-9.
YSU won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to take an early lead. At No. 1, Julia Marko and Ghada Dirninger won 6-4 while Lorena Cedeno and Lydia Foster won 6-3 at No. 3.
In singles play, Lorena Cedeno won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles while Yoana Dudova picked up a 7-6 (5), 6-3 at No. 6.
However, the Vikings won in the top four matches of the lineup, including three-set wins at No. 2 and No.4.
YSU returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to Milwaukee. First serve at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center is set for 11 a.m.
