Christopher Highlights Strong Distance Performance in Boston

The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams had solid showings at two-day events – Tyson Invitational in Arkansas and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.

David Hemery Valentine Invitational

With World Records falling throughout the two-day competition, Hunter Christopher made his own splash setting a school record in the 3,000m with a time of 7:57.57. Christopher lowered his school mark by a half a second.

Ryan Meadows ran a personal-best time of 8:04.68 to move into second place on the all-time YSU list. Tobias Jones clocked a personal-best time of 8:15.34 which ranks sixth fastest in school history. Thomas Caputo ran a personal-best time of 8:17.48 and sits in seventh place.

In the mile, Connor Shingleton ran a personal-best time of 4:09.08 was did Ethan Cope clocking a 4:09.48. Other Penguins in the mile were Riley Jackson (4:21.18), Sage Vavro (4:22.14) and Noah Johnson had a time of 4:22.30.

In the 800m, Trenton Shutters had time of 1:53.50 and William Hanchosky posted a time of 1:53.73.

Capping off the men's outstanding performance was Blaze Fichter clocking a time of 14:25.38, a personal best that moves him into seventh in YSU history.

For the women, McKinley Fielding ran a career-best time in the 3,000m of 9:37.58 to move into third place in program history in the event. Jenna Razavi had a personal-best time of 9:58.31 and posted the sixth-fastest time in the event.

In the 5,000m, Caleigh Richards ran a time of 16:59.59 which is the fourth fastest in the event in school history.

In the mile, Megan Stafford ran a personal-best time of 5:08.07 while Carly Hall had time of 5:0512 and Kenzy Beckett had a time of 5:06.20.

Tyson Invitational

At the two-day meet at the Randal Tyson Track Center, Esther Solarin was 10th in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 12.79m while Nia Williams-Matthews had a best mark of 12.17m for the meet.

Solarin was also 13th in the long jump with a leap of 6.03m which tied a career best.

Daimere Stevens-Stewart clocked a time of 6.94 seconds in the 60m. Zachary Webb cleared 2.00m in the high jump.

The Penguins will have select athletes run next week at the Raider Tune up hosted by Mount Union. YSU is next set to compete as a full team at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 1-2 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
