Fielding, Williams-Matthews Set School Marks at YSU Mid-Major Invitational

McKinley Fielding and Nia Williams-Matthews set school records to lead a strong Saturday performance by the YSU men's and women's track and field teams in the YSU Mid-Major Invitational presented by Southwoods Health at the WATTS.

Winning events for the women were Fielding (mile), Williams-Matthews (triple jump), Olivia Mason (shot put elite) and Mariah Day (60m hurdles).

Winning events for the men were Jaden Kirkwood (shot put), Connor Durig (high jump) and Connor Shingleton (elite mile). YSU's 4x400m relay capped off the meet with a winning time of 3:19.50.

In the first running event of the day, Fielding ran a time of 4:48.33 in her YSU debut in the event and first collegiate appearance at the WATTS. She broke the previous record of 4:51 set by Morgan Cole.

For the second straight week, Williams-Matthews set the school mark on her final attempt after losing it. Williams-Matthews leaded 12.86m while Esther Solarin placed second with a mark of 12.74m which came on her third leap.

The men took the top seven spots in the elite mile led by Shingleton who clocked a time of 4:10.81. Ryan Meadows took second, Blaze Fichter was third and Tobias Jones came in fourth.

In the women's shot put elite, the Guins were first, second and fourth. Winning the event was Mason with a throw of 13.62m while Lauren Sheehan was second at 12.82m and Molly Radcliffe was fourth at 12.44m.

In the women's 60m hurdles, YSU was first, second, third and fifth as Day led the way with a time of 8.51 seconds to set a meet record. Placing second was Ava Littler with a time of 8.53 seconds, Emily Bee was third at 8.53 seconds and Lea Parham was fifth at 9.10 seconds. Later in the meet, Day was third in the 200m with a time of 25.10 seconds.

In the men's shot put elite, Kirkwood took first place with a time of 16.17m while Ryan Tetrick was second at 16.01m and Coleson Kertesz was fifth with a toss of 15.12m.

In the men's high jump, Durig won his first collegiate title with a best mark of 1.98m while Nathan Leskovac came in second at 1.95m.

In the men's triple jump, Mateo Smith placed third with a leap of 14.02m while Aaron Beradinelli was fourth at 13.79m. In the women's high jump, Kalli Knoble was fourth at 1.54m.

In the 400m, Shutters placed third with a career-best time of 48.91 seconds while freshman Michael Ballone was fourth at 49.08 seconds. In the 800m, William Hanchosky was second with a time of 1:53.21. In the 200m, Jake Mcentyre was third with a time of 21.87 seconds and Joseph Owusu-Ansah was fourth at 21.95 seconds.

In the men's 60m hurdles, Micah Mitchell was second at 8.09 second while Clancy Chrystal was fourth at 8.29 seconds. For the women, Elle Pearsall was third in the 60m dash clocking a time of 7.75 seconds. Megan Stafford placed third in the 3000m run with a time of 10:18.47.

In the men's pole vault, Lukas Lang was second clearing the bar at 4.80m while Harrison Spalding was third at 4.50m.
