Penguins Win 13 Events at YSU Collegiate Invitational

The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams returned to action in full force at the YSU Collegiate Invitational presented by Southwoods Health at WATTS on Friday afternoon.

Earning event wins for YSU were Madison Murry (60m Hurdles), Luke Laubacher (60m Hurdles), Elle Pearsall (60m dash), Olivia Mason (shot put), Mateo Smith (long jump), Nia Williams-Matthews (long jump), Mason Stephens (high jump), Trenton Shutters (800m), Caleigh Richards (3,000m), Emmanuel Asabere (triple jump), Melana Schumaker (pole vault) and Nedgine Morancy (triple jump). The women added a win in the 4x400m relay.

YSU had a huge haul of success in the 60m, 60m hurdles and 200m as well as the jumps.

In the women's 60m, Pearsall won her first career race taking first with a meet-record time of 7.60 seconds. Murry was second (7.63) and Melody Harloff was third clocking a 7.72. In the 200m, Harloff was second with a time of 25.31 seconds and Pearsall was fifth at 25.75 seconds.

The Guins had the top four spots in the women's 60m hurdles. Winning the event was Murry with a meet-record time of 8.43 seconds. Emily Bee was second (8.64), Mariah Day (8.74) was third and Ava Littler (8.80) placed fourth.

Women's 4x400m won with a time of 4:04.51 beating Edinboro by 0.03 seconds as Harloff had an impressive closing 100m to rally for the win.

In the men's 60m hurdles, Laubacher cruised to the title with a time of 7.72 seconds. Placing second with a time of 7.90 seconds was Micah Mitchell, while Hutchinson was third at 8.03 seconds and Clancy Chrystal was fifth at 8.27 seconds.

In the 60m, Daimere Stephens-Stewart was third at 6.84 seconds while Joseph Owusu-Ansah was fifth at 6.95. In the 200m, Stephens-Stewart placed third at 21.89 seconds, Jake Mcentyre was fourth at 22.05 seconds and Owusu-Ansah came in fifth at 22.10 seconds.

Richards claimed the title in the 3,000m with a time of 9:59.76.

In the high jump, YSU took the top four spots led by Stephens at 2.02m. Placing second was Nathan Leskovac, third was Zachary Webb and fourth was Connor During who all also cleared 2.02m.

Mason led a 1-2-3 finish in the women's shot put. Mason had a toss of 13.89m, Molly Radcliffe was second at 13.33m and Lauren Sheehan was third at 13.08m.

In the pole vault, Schumaker won with a height of 3.80m while Gabbi Selman and Ainsley Hamsher tied for second at 3.70m.

The men also went 1-2-3 in the long jump led by Smith with a leap of 7.33m while Brandon Hutchinson was second at 6.91m and Aaron Beredinelli was third at 6.66m. In the triple jump, Asabere took first with a best leap of 13.49m while Beredinelli had a best mark of 13.11m.

Williams-Matthews won the long jump with a distance of 5.83m and Daisha Decree was second at 5.74m.

Morancy won the triple jump with a leap of 11.47m while Decree was runner up at 11.31m.

Lukas Lang was third in the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 4.95m. Sheehan took third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.21m. Coleson Kertesz was third in shot put with a toss of 15.42m.

Megan Stafford – Fifth in the Shot Put (5:11.00)
Mariah Day - Fifth in the 60m (7.77 seconds)

The Penguins return to action next week when they compete at the Clemson Orange and Purple Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
