Milwaukee, Wis. – The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a gritty 4-3 win over Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon at the River Glen Elite Tennis Center.
The Penguins improve to 2-1 in Horizon League play following the win while the Panthers drop to 7-10 and 1-2.
YSU battled back in singles play after the Panthers won the doubles point.
In singles, the Guins won in straight sets No. 2 and No. 6. At No. 2, Julia Marko picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win while Yeseniia Ovcharova claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
At No. 4 singles, Elinor Beazley rallied for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 win while the Panthers tied the match at three with a three-set win at No. 3.
At No. 5, Lili Minich was tied a set apiece with Emilia Durska (6-3, 4-6). In the third, Minich trailed 4-3 before winning the final three points to take the match and the dual.
The Penguins return home this weekend to face Northern Kentucky and IUPUI.
