The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up an impressive 6-1 win over Horizon League leader Northern Kentucky on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins improve to 3-1 in the Horizon League standings while NKU drops to 2-1. YSU, Cleveland State and Chicago State are each 3-1 in HL play with two matches to go.
YSU won the doubles point and five of six singles contests in the match.
In doubles play, the Guins won 6-1 at No. 2 and 6-4 at No. 3 to grab the early momentum.
The Penguins won their five singles contests in straight sets.
At No. 2, Julia Marko picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win. In action at No. 4, Elinor Beazley earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory. At No. 5, Lili Minich won her match 6-2, 6-3. At No. 6, Yeseniiia Ovcharova cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 triumph.
In the final singles match, Lorena Cedeno capped off the strong performance with a 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) win at No. 3.
The Guins close out their home season tomorrow with a contest against IUPUI. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
