Philadelphia, Pa. - Hunter Christopher finished second in the 5,000m run while Morgan Cole and Thomas Caputo set personal bests as the Penguins shined brightly under the Franklin Field lights on Thursday evening.
Christopher ran a time of 13:53.37 in the second heat and placed just behind North Carolina's Will Coogan by just under a second in the College Championship race. Christopher finished ahead of 67 other runners in the race. YSU's Ryan Meadows clocked a time of 14:13.50 to place 21st.
Cole narrowly missed the school record in the 5,000m with a personal-best time of 16:35.42. She cut more than five seconds off of her previous best time in the race.
In the final race of the evening, Caputo clocked a time of 30:46.83 which was his best by almost six seconds and moves him into seventh-place all-time in school history in the event. Beau Gorby posted a time of 31:40.95 in the 10K.
The Penguins will have athletes compete at the Ashland Alumni Open on Friday and Saturday. That's the final YSU competition before the 2024 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships which start on May 3.
