Columbus, Ohio – The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams picked up three event victories during the Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic held on Friday and Saturday at the Jesse Owens Track.
Winning events were Erin Bogard (women's pole vault), Harry Barton (men's 400m hurdles) and Keegan Barnette (men's steeplechase).
Bogard claimed her second win in the pole vault this spring with a best effort of 4.08m. Finishing third in the event for YSU was Melana Schumaker who eclipsed 4.03m. Barton ran a race of 51.50 seconds in the 400m hurdles to win by a second a half. Barnette ran a time of 9:20.06 to win the steeplechase by just over three seconds.
In the men's pole vault, Blake Sifferlin had a personal-best mark of 5.13m to finish second in the event. Dorian Chaigneau placed fourth at 4.88m while Jack Vecellio also cleared 4.88m. Sifferlin was the top collegiate finisher in the event.
In the men's high jump, the Guins finished second, third and fifth. Lonnie Harper was second and Mason Stephens was third as both cleared personal-best marks of 2.08m. Nathan Leskovac took fifth with a leap of 2.03m.
In the men's long jump, Luke Laubacher had a career-best leap of 7.45m to finish second while Jakari Lomax had a best jump of 7.35m. Laubacher's jump moves him into second place all-time in school history.
For the women, Daisha Decree placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.57m.
Running highlights for the men included Micah Mitchell who clocked a career-best time of 14.41 seconds to finish third in the 110m hurdles. Senior Christian Ford placed fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 10.77 seconds.
In the throwing events, Molly Radcliffe finished third in the discus with a throw of 47.77m while Dominic Perry was fourth in the shot put at 18.03m and Ryan Henry was fifth with a toss of 17.74m.
The Penguins will send athletes to the Penn Relays and the Ashland Alumni Open this upcoming week.
