The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up their fourth straight Horizon League victory defeating IUPUI, 7-0, on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins improve to 4-1 in league play and are tied with Cleveland State atop the conference standings. Chicago State is a match and half back currently at 3-1.
YSU took advantage of a short-handed Jaguars squad to make quick work of the doubles point. The Guins won at No. 3 by default before claiming a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. After seniors Maria Oliveira and Eliska Masarikova dropped the first point they regrouped to win the next six points.
In singles, IUPUI defaulted at No. 6 and the Guins won four matches in straight sets. At No. 1, Masarikova picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win. At No. 2, Julia Marko won 6-0, 6-2. In action at No. 4, Lorena Cedeno won 6-4, 6-4 and at No. 5, Lili Minich collected a 6-1, 6-0 victory. In the longest match of the day, Elinor Beazley won 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 to cap off the sweep.
The Guins close out the regular season next Saturday at Oakland. A win over the Golden Grizzlies will give the Penguins at least a share of the HL regular-season title.
