Morgantown, W. Va. - The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams opened up the outdoor season at the WVU Stan Romanoski Open which concluded on cold and windy Saturday.
In the discus, Lexus Solarz had a winning throw of 44.52m to pick up the first event win of her YSU career.Â
In the hammer throw, Emily Wolf was the top finisher with a throw of 43.01m. In the event, Grace Sparks had a best throw of 41.16m and Krista Perry posted a mark of 40.88m. In the javelin, Valeria Young finished eighth with a throw of 34.18m while India Bailey had a best throw of 32.33m and Vanessa Greaves had a throw of 32.19m. Also in the discus, Perry had a throw of 33.21m.
The men had four athletes compete at the meet.
The top finisher was Connor Shingleton who placed fourth in the 1500m steeplechase with a time of 4:30.33. In the 5000m, Beau Gorby clocked a time of 15:35.25 and Thomas Hunyadi finished with a time of 16:02.24.
Thrower Ryan Tetrick made his outdoor debut for the Guins. In the hammer throw, he had a toss of 38.33m.
The Penguins return to action on Friday when they begin competition at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State.
