The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-1 decision to Duquesne on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
Lili Minich claimed a straight-set win at No. 5 singles and the Guins took three other singles contest to three sets against the Spartans.
Minich picked up an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory for her second consecutive victory while Michigan State earned straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
Michigan State earned the clinching victory at No. 6 with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 come-from-behind win.
At No. 2, Julia Marko led her match 2-6, 6-2, 3-0 when the Spartans clinched. At No. 4, Elinor Beazley was tied with a score of 5-7, 6-0, 3-3.
The Penguins also led 5-2 at No. 2 doubles when the match was clinched. Marko and Lorena Cedeno were one point from a victory, but the Spartans won 6-3, 6-3 decisions at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point.
YSU opens Horizon League play on March 30 when it visits Cleveland State.
