The Youngstown State lacrosse program will host George Washington at Farmers National Bank Field on Wednesday. First draw against the Revolutionaries is set for noon.

This will be the first meeting in program history for the Penguins and Revolutionaries. George Washington is 2-6 so far on the year defeating Howard, 21-7, and Mid-American Conference member Robert Morris, 16-9. GW's six losses have come from Canisius, UMBC, American, William & Mary, Old Dominion, and St. Bonaventure.
Emma Nowakowski leads GW in goals with 19 and has also delivered two assists for 21 points on the season. Desiree Kleberg ranks second in both goals and points with 15 goals and 20 points while Phoebe Mullarkey ranks third with 13 goals and 18 points. Five different Revolutionaries have delivered five assists on the year to lead GW: Kleberg, Mullarkey, Everly Kessler, Haley Bolton, and Chamberlaine Bell.
Stella Ray leads the Revolutionaries at draw, netting 49 through eight games. She also leads the way in caused turnovers with eight and ground balls with 19. Goalkeeper Mia Caro has recorded the majority of minutes in the cage, making 61 saves and giving up 82 goals for a .427 save percentage
GW is under the direction of head coach Colleen McCaffrey, who is in her second season with the program. McCaffrey led the Revolutionaries to a 6-12 overall record and 5-4 record in the A-10 during her first season with the team.
By The Numbers
- Freshman Lena Cox leads the Penguins in goals (12) and points (13) and eclipsed the 10-goal mark with a career-high four goals against Stetson before scoring two against Longwood.
- Freshman Ava Kreutzer skyrocketed to second in the team in goals (9) and points (12) after scoring seven goals on just seven shoots across the Penguins' past two games. She delivered her first career hat trick against Stetson before scoring a career-high 4 goals against Longwood. Kreutzer also leads the Penguins in shot percentage with nine of 11 shots finding the back of the net (81.8%).
- Freshman Grace Rund ranks third in goals scored with eight while Ally Garrett (6), Genna Cooke (5), Katie Grottenthaler (5), Brooke Peck (4), Jade Shearer (3), Emma Hoffman (2), Molly Sheridan (2), and Callie Vaudry (1) have found the back of the net this season.
- Shearer leads in assists with four while Kreutzer has delivered three.
- Kayla Stecker has led the Penguins defensively this season. Kayla has grabbed 20 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers to rank first in the Mid-American Conference in both ground balls and caused turnovers per game. Her six ground balls and five caused turnovers at Stetson were the second-best single-game marks in YSU history in both statistical categories.
- Genna Cooke leads YSU with 18 draw controls while Mia Stahl has collected 11.
- Paige Borkowski has recorded 65 saves in the Penguins' first six games, allowing 109 goals for a .374 save percentage. Borkowski set the program's single-game saves record with 20 against Stetson.

The Penguins moved to 0-6 after falling to Longwood, 16-10, at Farmers National Bank Field on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Ava Kreutzer scored a career-high four goals to lead the Penguins, marking her second consecutive game with a hat trick of goals. She also made an assist for five points on the day. Both Lena Cox and Grace Rund found the back of the net twice while Ally Garrett and Emma Hoffman scored once. Also delivering assists were Molly Sheridan, Brooke Peck, and Garrett.
Kayla Stecker again led the Penguins defensively putting forth impressive numbers. She grabbed six ground balls and caused three turnovers while also recording a draw control. Leading in draw controls was Genna Cooke with four. Paige Borkowski made five saves while giving up 16 goals for a .273 save percentage.
Harris at the Helm
Head coach Rob Harris took the reins of the Penguins in July of 2023 after nine impressive seasons as head coach of the Division II Davenport Panthers. In 2021, Harris delivered a historic season at Davenport, leading the team to its first NCAA top-25 ranking as well as a GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference) tournament finals appearance. During his tenure with the Panthers, he led the team to an impressive 70 percent win percentage (102-45), winning both an NWLL National and NAIA Invitational Championship in his career.
In August of 2023, Harris brought on experienced coach Taylor Woolard to his staff, who spent three seasons as the head women's lacrosse coach at Division II Converse University. Woolard serves as associate head coach of the Penguins. Further detailing the experience of the Penguins' coaching staff is Halle Bielke who served as interim head coach of the Penguins during the 2023 season and remains with the Penguins as assistant coach in 2024.
