The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field team had a busy Friday and Saturday competing at three meets – the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games, the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas and the Dave Hemery Valentine Invitational Hosted by Boston U.
In Boston the distance runners set numerous personal bests while YSU had solid efforts at the SPIRE and Tyson meets.
YSU has one final performance before the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships later this month, next Friday at Akron's Campbell Invitational.
SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games
Dominic Perry won the shot put, Harry Barton won the 400m while Riley Jackson won the mile to lead the way.
In the high jump Mason Stephens was second at 2.03m while Zachary Webb was third at 1.98m and Lonnie Harper was fifth also at 1.98m.
Lauren Sheehan was fifth in the weight throw with a best toss of 16.62m while placing sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.23m.
Perry won the shot put with a throw of 18.01m and also finished fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 17.17m.
In the mile, Jackson clocked a time of 4:12.83 to take first place in the event.
In the 400m, Barton clocked a winning time of 48.70 seconds taking first by 0.36 seconds. In the 200m, he posted a third-place time of 21.82 seconds.
In the 800m, William Hanchosky ran a personal-best time of 1:53.27 which ranks eighth in school history.
In the 60m hurdles, Madison Murry placed second with a time of 8.64 seconds. In the 60m dash, Cyncere Cunningham was third with a time of 7.61 seconds while Murry was fifth at 7.70 seconds.
YSU took second and third place in the 200m with Mone Knowles placing second 24.90 seconds while Melody Harloff was third clocking a 25.10 seconds.
In the 5000m, Molly Hopple placed fourth with a time of 18:44.99.
Tyson Invitational
Malena Schumaker finished second in the pole vault clearing 4.03m. Also clearing 4.03m, but placing fifth was Ainsley Hamsher. It marked the second straight meet that both Penguins clearing over four meters. Erin Bogard and Kaitlyn Eger both cleared 3.88m.
In the long jump, Micah Carey had a top leap of 5.74m while Esther Solarin had a best effort of 5.69m.
In the triple jump, Nia Williams-Matthews jumped 12.30m while Solarin had a top leap of 12.10m.
In the 60m hurdles, Luke Laubacher earned an impressive seventh-place finish running a career-best time of 7.76 seconds in the finals.
In the long jump invitational, Tye Hunt had a great performance finishing fifth in a loaded field. His best leap of 7.88m was his second-best effort of the year.
In the pole vault, Blake Sifferlin placed third clearing a height of 5.32m while Jack Vecellio posted a career-best mark of 5.17m. In the pole vault invitational, Dorian Chaigneau was sixth clearing a height of 5.32m.
In the triple jump, Jakari Lomax had a top leap of 15.07m.
Dave Hemery Valentine Invitational Hosted by Boston U
On Friday, the women's distance runners were in action.
In the 3000m, Morgan Cole posted a career-best time of 9:29.19. She missed the school record by a half second. Also in the 3000m, Jenna Razavi had a personal-best time of 10:12.62.
In the 800m, Malena Cybak had a time of 2:14.26 and in the 3000m Alyssa Deeds ran a 10:19.27.
On Saturday, the men's distance runners were in action.
In the 3000m, Blaze Fichter ran a personal-best time of 8:22.06 while Thomas Caputo ran a time of 8:24.95.
In the mile, Hunter Christopher posted a time of 4:05.93, Sage Vavro ran a personal-best time of 4:07.86 which ranks fifth-best in school history while Owen Brady clocked a personal-best time of 4:10.62 which is seventh best in program history.
In the 3000m, Ryan Meadows ran a personal-best time of 8:13.23 to move into third all-time in school history.
