Boston, Mass. - Youngstown State senior distance runner Hunter Christopher lowered his school record by almost eight seconds on Saturday evening at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at the Boston U Tennis and Track Facility.
Christopher clocked a time of 13:38.45 running the third heat of the event. His previous school record in the event was 13:47.78 which he set at the same meet on Dec. 3, 2023. In a race full of some of the top runners in the country, he finished 41st overall.
Also for the Penguins, McKinley Fielding ran a career-best time of 16:55.23 in her 5,000m race. Her previous career best came when she was a runner at Toledo (17:17.05) at the Michigan Invitational back in January. Her time is the third-fastest in Youngstown State history in the indoor event.
YSU's Ryan Meadows finished with a time of 14:07.98 in the 5000m.
The Guins will be off for the holiday break before returning to action on Jan. 10 at the Jud Logan Memorial Invitational hosted by Kent State.
