The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 match to Butler on Friday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (1-1) won the doubles point and Elinor Beazley and Yeseniia Ovcharova won singles matches, but the Bulldogs (1-2) rallied to win four singles contests for the win.
In doubles play, Eliska Masarikova and Maria Oliveira won 6-2 at No. 1 and the Guins earned the point when Lili Minich and Ovcharova picked up a 6-4 win.
In singles action, Butler won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles. At No. 2, Beazley claimed a 6-1, 7-6 (6) win while Ovcharova battled back to earn a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.
The decisive match came at No. 4 singles. Minich lost her first set 6-4 before taking the second set 6-3. In the third she dropped a 6-2 set.
The Penguins close out a three-match season-opening homestand on Sunday against Georgetown. First serve against the Hoyas is set for 2 p.m.
