Bogard Finishes In Top 20 At NCAA Championships

Austin, Texas – Youngstown State senior pole vaulter Erin Bogard finished 19th in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday evening at the Myers Track and Soccer Stadium. Bogard will earn Honorable-Mention All-America honors for her top-20 finish.

Bogard's finish is the best-ever by a YSU women's athlete at the NCAA Championships.

After missing on her first attempt at 4.00m, Bogard easily cleared the height to become one of 21 athletes to remain in the competition. At the 4.00m height, 17 athletes cleared the bar while four passed and three did not advance. Only 23 athletes started the NCAA meet with one individual not participating.

At 4.15m, she missed on her three tries. That height proved to be a tough one for all involved as only 14 advanced and six were eliminated.

Of the 23 in the event, three failed to record a height. Bogard tied with Florida Atlantic's Filippa Miller who also cleared her second chance at 4.00m, but missed on three attempts at 4.15m.

The Penguins' Zach Gehm will be the third and final Guin to see competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships when throws in the discus tomorrow night. The event is set for 8:35 p.m. Eastern/7:35 p.m. Central on Friday.
