The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams used the Harrison Dillard Twilight meet hosted by Baldwin-Wallace on Thursday, Friday and evenutally Saturday as a good final tune-up before postseason NCAA selections are announced this upcoming week.
Winning events at the three-day meet were Zach Gehm (discus), Jahniya Bowers (200m), Erin Bogard (pole vault), Dorian Chaigneau (pole vault)Â and Dominic Perry (pole vault).
Chaigneau won the pole vault which starterd on Friday evening, but had to be pushed to a Saturday morning finsh because of darkness. Chaigneau cleared 5.40m for the win while Blake Sifferlin was fifth at 4.72m.
Gehm won the discus title on Thursday with a toss of 54.23m to lead a 1-2-3 YSU finish. Placing second was Coleson Kertesz with a throw of 51.04m while Zach Gray was third with a toss of 50.05m.
Highlighting the meet on Friday was Bogard solidifying her place in the NCAA prelims in the pole vault. The Horizon League outdoor champion cleared a personal-best and school-record height of 4.20m. After being on the cut-line for the NCAA Prelims, Bogard will now safely advance to Florida for the postseason.
Perry led a dominate effort by YSU in the shot put. He won with a personal-best throw of 18.51 meters while placing second with his own personal-best throw of 18.11m was Ryan Henry. Henry moves into third place all-time in school history in the event.
In the 200m for the women, Bowers won with a time of 23.55 seconds. In the 5,000m for the men, Ryan Meadows placed second with a time of 14:13.86. In the steeplechase, Keegan Barnette was third with a personal-best time of 9:04.28.
In the men's high jump, Lonnie Harper was second with an effort of 2.04m. In the women's shot put, Molly Radcliffe was third with toss of 14.62m while Lauren Sheehan was fourth with a throw of 14.01m. Also in the pole vault, Malena Shumaker was second with a clearance of 3.96m.
Running personal bests on the evening was Trenton Shutters in the 800m who had a time of 1:52.33 which was fifth-best in school history. On the women's side Malena Cybak posted a personal-best time of 2:13.41 which was good for a seventh-place finish. In the men's 100m final, Jalen Ghee was fifth with a time of 10.79 second.
In the men's 1,500m, Tyler Clark had a personal-best time of 3:50.02 which ranks fourth in school history.
Select Guins will be a part of the NCAA Regional selection announcement which is set for Wednesday at 1 p.m.
