The Youngstown State women's tennis team opened an important two-day stretch with a 5-2 victory over Chicago State at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins improve to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in Horizon League play while the Cougars fall to 9-12 and 1-1.
YSU came out strong in doubles winning the point in just over 25 minutes. At No. 2, Eliska Masarikova and Elisa Rigazio won their match 6-0 while at No. 3, Julia Marko and Line Greyling picked up an impressive 6-2 win.
In singles, Rigazio claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1; at No. 6, Marko cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph while Cecila Rosas earned a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 4. At No. 3, Masarikova dropped her first set 6-4 before regrouping for a 6-2,
The Cougars earned straight set wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
The Penguins play host to Milwaukee tomorrow at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve against the Panthers is set for 11 a.m.
