The Youngstown State men's track and field saw two Penguins extend their previous school records in the past two days as Zach Gehm increased his record in the discus while Ryan Meadows lowered his in the 5,000m run.
On Friday night at the Virginia Challenge, Meadows became the first outdoor runner in school history to go below 14 minutes in the 5,000m event. He clocked a time of 13:59.72 to finish sixth in a very talented field during the Elite race. Meadows' previous-best time was 14.:02.34.
On Saturday afternoon at the Jesse Owens Classic, Gehm uncorked a throw of 58.69m to extend his record in the discus. Gehm's previous-best throw was 58.02m and he eclipsed that on his fourth attempt at OSU. Also in the event, Ryan Henry placed fifth with a throw of 53.35m.
Moving up the all-time YSU charts with personal-bests efforts were Dominic Perry, Henry and Harry Barton.
In the shot put at the Jesse Owens Classic, Perry had a career-best throw of 18.42m which moved him into second place in school history while Henry had a mark of 17.79m which jumped him all the way up to fourth. In the event, Perry was third and Henry was fourth.
At Virginia in the 400m hurdles, Barton ran a career-best time of 52.65 seconds. That mark was good enough to move him into third place in school history in the event. He finished third in the race overall.
In the men's javelin at OSU, Noah Drudy was fifth with a throw of 60.24m, which was a season-best mark. Weston McLain had a best throw of 58.68m. For the women, Addi Watts finished third in the javelin with a throw of 41.64m.
In the men's pole vault at Ohio State, Dorian Chaigneau placed third with a best effort of 5.17m.Â
In the women's pole vault at OSU, Erin Bogard placed fifth with a clearance of 3.98m while Malena Schumaker was seventh at 3.83m.
