The Youngstown State men's tennis team finishes up the road portion of their Horizon League slate with contests at IUPUI and Northern Kentucky this weekend.
The Guins (10-9 overall and 3-1 in the Horizon League) face the Jaguars at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the West Indy Racquet Club and on Sunday venture to Crestview Hills, Ky., to face Northern Kentucky at the Five Seasons Sports Club. That match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
IUPUI enters the weekend with a 5-18 overall record and a 1-4 league ledger. The Jags have won four home matches this dropping a hard-fought 4-3 contest to the Norse on April 1 in their most recent home dual. NKU (11-8 and 3-2) entertains Cleveland State on Saturday before the Guins visit on Sunday afternoon.
YSU beat Northern Kentucky 4-3 at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center on March 25 and knocked off IUPUI by a 5-2 score on March 26.
Javi Gonzalez Pla and David Alvarez Moreno are the hottest two Penguins entering this weekend's matches. Pla has won a career-best five straight matches while Moreno is on a four-game winning streak. Clement Mainguy picked up a pair of victories last week for YSU. In singles in league play, YSU is 18-12 while it owns a 9-5 ledger in completed doubles tilts.
Last week, YSU dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Cleveland State, but rebounded to beat Chicago State 5-2 to stay a match behind the Vikings and one ahead of the Norse entering the penultimate weekend of the season.
