The Youngstown State women's tennis team opened Horizon League play with an impressive 5-2 win over Cleveland State on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins dropped the doubles point before roaring back to win five of six singles contests in the victory.
In singles play, the Guins won in straight sets at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles while claiming three-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
At No. 4 singles, Cecilia Rosas earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory. At No. 5 singles, Moka Ito claimed a 7-6 (1), 6-2 win in her Horizon League debut. At No. 6 singles, Julia Marko earned a 6-4, 6-2 win.
At No. 2 singles, Lili Minich overcame a first set defeat, 6-4, taking the next two sets, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Eliska Masarikova clinched the victory for the Guins with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 triumph.
In doubles play, YSU won at No. 2 behind a 6-4 victory by Masarikova and Rigazio. However, CSU won at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point and take the early lead in the match.
YSU returns to action next Friday when it plays host to new Horizon League member Chicago State. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
