Box Score Birmingham, Ala. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Samford on Wednesday at the Samford Tennis Center.
The Penguins (6-7) won the doubles point and picked up two singles wins over the Bulldogs (7-5).
In doubles, YSU picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the point. At No. 2 doubles, David Alvarez Moreno and Will Everett clinched the point with a 7-6 win after Harry Fouzas and Laurentiu Mandocescu picked up a 6-3 win at No. 3.
Four of the six singles matches lasted three sets. Javi Gonzalez Pla picked up a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles in YSU's lone three-set win. At No. 1, Mandocescu earned a 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles. Samford won in three sets at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles and won in straight sets at No. 4. The matchÂ
