Birmingham, Ala. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Samford on Wednesday at the Samford Tennis Center.

The Penguins (6-7) won the doubles point and picked up two singles wins over the Bulldogs (7-5).

In doubles, YSU picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the point. At No. 2 doubles, David Alvarez Moreno and Will Everett clinched the point with a 7-6 win after Harry Fouzas and Laurentiu Mandocescu picked up a 6-3 win at No. 3.

Four of the six singles matches lasted three sets. Javi Gonzalez Pla picked up a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles in YSU's lone three-set win. At No. 1, Mandocescu earned a 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles. Samford won in three sets at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles and won in straight sets at No. 4. The match 

YSU returns to action on Friday, March 17 when they travel to Wilmington, N.C., for contests against Illinois State and UNC-Wilmington.
