Wilmington, N.C. – The Youngstown State men's tennis team beat Illinois State in a 4-3 thriller and suffered a 4-0 setback to UNCW on a busy Friday of play at the Battle at the Beach hosted at the UNCW Tennis Courts.

With the results of Friday's matches, the Guins are now 6-8 on the season.

Against the Redbirds, the contest was tied 3-all, before Nathan Favier picked up a come-from-behind victory at No. 3 singles. Favier dropped the first set, 6-3, to Tomas Valencia, before winning the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Guins.

YSU took an early lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1, Clement Mainguy and Favier clinched the point with a 7-6 win while Laurentiu Mandocescu and Harry Fouzas had already picked up a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Fouzas won in straight sets – 6-3, 6-2 – at No. 6 singles while Mainguy cruised to a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

The Redbirds earned a straight set win at No. 5 singles and won in three sets at No. 1 and No. 4 singles.

In the second match of the day, a rested Seahawks team beat the Guins 4-0.

In doubles, Will Everett and David Alvarez Moreno won at No. 2 by a score of 6-3, but UNCW won at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point.

In singles, the Seahawks won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles to earn the victory.

YSU is in action tomorrow against DePaul to conclude its non-league season. First serve against the Blue Demons is set for 11 a.m.
