Men's Tennis

Penguins Entertain Jaguars, Norse This Weekend

The Youngstown State men's tennis team will look to remain undefeated in Horizon League action when it hosts IU Indy and Northern Kentucky on Saturday and Sunday.

First serve at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center on both Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for 10 a.m.

The Penguins are coming off a dominant 7-0 win over Chicago State on April 4 in their final non-conference matchup, improving their overall record to 13-4.

IU Indy enters the weekend with a 2-2 record in Horizon League play after a 4-3 loss to NKU. Earlier this season, the Penguins defeated the Jaguars 7-0 in Indianapolis. A win on Saturday would mark YSU's first season sweep of IU Indy since the 2021-22 campaign.

On Sunday, the Penguins will celebrate Senior Day, honoring Alexis Maulouet. Maulouet spent last year at West Florida before coming to YSU in the fall. He played two seasons at a University in France before coming to the U.S. to continue his education.

This year at YSU, he has won nine singles contests, including four in dual play. In doubles, he has 11 victories.

NKU currently sits at 1-3 in conference play, with its lone league victory coming in a 4-3 win over IU Indy on April 4. The Norse play at Ohio State on Friday and at Cleveland State on Saturday before capping off a busy stretch in Youngstown.

Earlier this season, YSU defeated the Norse 5-2, and another victory this weekend would give the Penguins a series sweep for the second consecutive year.

With victories over both IU Indy and NKU, Youngstown State would clinch the No.1 seed in the North Division for the first time since the Horizon League developed the divisional format.

As a team, YSU is 16-2 in Horizon League singles matches after playing each time once – all on the road. The Guins have dropped the doubles point in two of their three HL matches.
