The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams had a successful two days against some tough competition at the Scarlet Knights Open hosted by Rutgers at the Armory in New York City.
For the women, Jahniya Bowers picked up victories in the 60m and 200m dashes. For the men, Dominic Perry claimed the win in the shot put and Dorian Chaigneau won the pole vault.
Bowers won the 60m dash with a time of 7.34 seconds, finishing first by 0.14 seconds in the finals. In the 200m, she posted a winning time of 23.77 seconds to win the event by 0.22 seconds ahead of Southern Illinois' Iaunia Pointer.
Perry won the shot put with a toss of 17.22m to outdistance SIU's Cole Targgart in the event. Chaigneau had a YSU-personal best clearance of 5.30m to beat Penn's James Rhoads. Chiagneau tried to clear the bar at 5.50m in his final three attempts, which would have set a YSU record.
Tye Hunt picked up a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.57m.

Jud Logan Light Giver Open Recap
Morgan Cole picked up a victory in the women's mile and Keegan Barnette took home a second-place finish in the 3,000m to lead the Penguins at the Jud Logan Light Giver Open on Saturday.
Cole narrowly missed the school record running a personal-best time of 4:54.54 and was just a second off the school best. Barnette ran a time of
For the men, Tyler Clark finished third in the mile with a time of 4:12.53 while Thomas Caputo was fifth at 4:15.32 and Mikel Lagaras placed eighth at 4:16.18.
In the women's mile, Malena Cybak was fourth with a time of 5:03.05 and Ashleigh Rowley was eight clocking a 5:09.17.
In the women's 800m run, Carly Hall was fifth running a time of 2:18.06. In the men's 3,000m, Tyler Coon placed fifth with a time of 8:31.37.
The Penguins have another busy weekend next week as they will send athletes to Boston, Geneva, Ohio, and Fayetteville, Ark., In Boston, YSU will participate in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational while in Arkansas, the Guins will compete in the Tyson Invitational. Additional athletes will compete close to home at the SPIRE Invitational.
