Men Roar To Impressive Performance Claiming Eighth Straight Title

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Youngstown State men's track and field team cruised to their eighth consecutive Horizon League Indoor Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on the campus of Purdue Fort Wayne.

YSU finished with an impressive 221 points to win the Championship while Oakland was the runner-up with 148 points and Milwaukee was third at 139.

Winning events on the final day for the Guins to help power to the title were Dominic Perry (shot put), Luke Laubacher (60m hurdles), Jakari Lomax (triple jump) and Hunter Christopher (3,000m).

Lomax won the triple jump with a leap of 15.20m to claim his fourth straight win the event becoming the first athlete in Horizon League history to claim that feat. Samuel Challis placed fifth with a mark of 13.97m.

Perry won the shot put with a throw of 18.08m earning the second title in his career (2021). Also, in the shot, Ryan Henry was fourth at 16.54m.

Luke Laubacher won the 60m hurdles title for the first time in his YSU career. Laubacher clocked a finals time of 8.05 seconds to take the victory while Harry Barton was sixth at 8.45 seconds.

Christopher capped off a 3,000m-5,000m double winning the 3K on Sunday. In the 3,000m he won with a time of 8:32.37 to edge out Milwaukee's Trevor Wenzel. Chase Easterling finished fourth in the 3K posting a time of 8:36.70.

In the mile, YSU had a strong performance placing second, third and fifth. Leading the way was Ty Coon who was second with a time of 4:15.13, Ryan Meadows finished third with a time of 4:16.81 and Tobias Jones was fifth at 4:18.15.

Lonnie Harper finished second in the high jump with a mark of 2.04m while Terron Taylor was sixth clearing the bar at 2.01m. In the 800m, Trenton Shutters was second with a time of 1:56.23 and Mikel Lagaras was fifth at 1:57.80.

In the 60m dash, Tye Hunt was fifth, Christian Ford was sixth and Jalen Ghee finished seventh.

In the 200m dash, Barton earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 22.25 seconds while Ford placed sixth. In the 400m, Ryan Laird was fifth with a time of 49.88 seconds.
